The Shoe Rescue Hurdle went the way of The Bosses Oscar providing Davy Russell with a winning spare ride.
Without success since October of 2020, the Gordon Elliott trained seven-year-old was expected to deliver this evening, going off the 11/10 favourite in the colours of Bective Stud.
Settled in second, the 139 rated victor improved to lead before the second last and was ridden approaching the final flight, keeping on well from there to score by two-and-a-quarter lengths. Dallas Des Pictons who attempted to make all, made it a 1,2 for Elliott, with Jordan Gainford aboard this easy-to-back 10/3 chance.
The well-supported Chiricahua (3/1 to 15/8) made a bad mistake at the fifth and he eventually finished four lengths back in third.
"It was an ideal race and he is a good horse but is just getting hard to place. It was nice to get his head back in front," Elliott said.
"Dallas Des Pictons is getting that bit older and will end up in the Doncaster Sales.
"It was unfortunate for Jack (Kennedy) but we had to give Davy a shout and it worked out well. Jack will be back on Monday - he has a sore leg but will be ok."
Russell, who has had just a handful of rides this summer, was recording his first winner of the 2022/23 season.
