Disqualified from a win at Kilbeggan in 2020, Granny Lowrie today notched a second 'first' success at that racecourse, landing the Greville Arms Hotel Mullingar Hurdle for trainer Pat Doyle and his son, jockey Jack Doyle.
The daughter of Fame And Glory won a maiden hurdle on debut, at 33/1, at the Co Westmeath venue in August 2020 but was subsequently disqualified as a banned substance was detected in her sample.
Today the seven year old made a mistake at the second-last but finished well for a useful three lengths win over Dancing After Dark with hat-trick chasing Shesadream (4/5f) finishing third, having become unbalanced on a bend with half a mile to race.
Winning jockey Jack Doyle later said “it's nice to get that with her as she was unlucky to lose a race here a couple of years ago.
“She was a mare we always liked and Barry Connell bought her but she must have had a few little issues with him. We were lucky enough to be able to buy her back (for €6,500 last February) and it's lovely for her to go and do that today.
“She'll probably go for a mares' winners race, we'll see what the programme is like and she is also big enough to jump a fence. Her jumping wasn't great today but it was falsely run, they crawled then sprinted and it probably didn't suit her.
“She has schooled over fences as she was going to run in a point-to-point but the ground just went for her.”
