Taaffe off the mark for the Hays
The Ascot Gold Cup winning colours of Fitri Hay were carried to success at Limerick today when trainer Tom Taaffe recorded his first winner for the owner with effortless winner Distant Memories (8/13).
The Group 3 winning gelding travelled well throughout and moved to the front early on the run-in, before staying on strongly for an easy length win over Page Turner Second favourite Captain Ocana (2/1) was found to be lame post race.
Afterwards Taaffe’s wife Elaine Taaffe stated “that’s only our second runner for Jim and Fitri Hay and we’re absolutely delighted to get a winner for them. We’ll take it one step at a time with Distant Memories and may go to Naas at the end of next month for a novice hurdle.”
