Foxy Jacks (12/1) ran out a game winner of the AXA Farm Insurance Midlands National Handicap Chase, making virtually all under Gavin Brouder for Mouse Morris.

The nine-year-old found Stealthy Tom a length-and-a-quarter too good in the Connacht National at Roscommon last month, but turned the tables on that rival, with the same margin between them again this evening.

In front before the second, the Rachel Carty-owned victor went six lengths clear from two out but was soon closed upon by the smooth travelling Stealthy Tom (5/1).

Pressed from the last, the winner responded well to pressure on the run-in and despite edging left and slightly impeding the runner-up, he fought on determinedly to the line.

A stewards enquiry was called, but the result ultimately remained unaltered.

The front-pair went 14-lengths clear of Life In The Park in third, with this Henry de Bromhead-trained gelding returned the 9/2 favourite.

Successful in this Kilbeggan season highlight 12-months ago, Hurricane Georgie had to settle for fourth this time around.

"He's always been a good horse but has just had some issues and is now back on track," Morris commented.

"He ran a cracker in Roscommon the last day and that form has really worked out with the second here.

"The Plate is a possibility if he gets in. He'll be on the borderline but after this he may get in."

STEWARDS REPORT

The Raceday Stewards enquired into possible interference in the closing stages involving Foxy Jacks, ridden by G. Brouder, placed first, and Stealthy Tom, ridden by M.M. McDonagh, placed second, where it appeared horses came close together. Evidence was heard from the riders concerned. M.M. McDonagh stated that he jumped the last in the middle of the fence and got two bumps which pushed his mount out. G. Brouder stated that his mount wasn't doing much in front. He jumped the inside of the last and his mount drifted out and he put his whip down and pulled his mount in. Having viewed the recording of the race and considered the evidence, the Raceday Stewards were of the opinion that while Foxy Jacks had caused interference to Stealthy Tom he did not improve his finishing position as a result of this interference so they made no alteration to the Judge’s placings. They were, however, of the opinion that G. Brouder was in breach of Rule 214 in that he had ridden carelessly and having considered his record in this regard the Raceday Stewards suspended him for one race day.
