Sunderland comes with a Renewed Challenge
The Sligo Champion Maiden Hurdle saw a great finish with the Myles Sunderland trained Renewed Challenge coming home in front under John Cullen.
Cullen was always prominent on the son of Darnay before producing the gelding to lead after three out. Renewed Challenge kept on well under a strong drive to hold off the even money favourite Good Old Thyme by three parts of a length.
A delighted Sutherland said afterwards: “The owner Joseph Sheahan is my father-in-law. He used to train in his own right, but gave up about a seven years ago.”
“The horses haven’t been right for a while now, but hopefully they are back on track. Chasing is certainly the long-term plan for this horse.”
Tommy Treacy who took a heavy fall from Boggan Hill has been stood down for the day.
