Westerners Son just got up on the line in a dramatic conclusion to the Cardinal Capital Handicap Hurdle at Leopardstown. Follow The Sign looked sure to score when well clear at the final flight.
However Shane Crimin's mount tired on the run-in, and was just pegged back in the final stride by the Conor Maxwell-ridden 16/1 chance. Miradane was seven lengths back in third, with Rocky Wednesday in fourth.
Winning trainer Dermot McLoughlin said, "I was hopeful beforehand but thought he'd need the run badly. The other horse was in front a long time.
"He's come back from injury and hopefully he's okay in the morning."
