Smullen edges ahead
Jockey Pat Smullen edged ahead in the Flat Jockeys' Championship with a double at Cork today.
Sumllen partnered Joanna Morgan's Fairy Flow to win the Kanturk Handicap before winning the concluding Blackwater Maiden on Dermot Weld's Mr Topaz
Following Mr Topaz's win, Weld son Kris Weld reported "we'll see how he comes out of this race and then he may go for the Eyrefield Stakes at Leopardstown. He is a nice horse and is related to Vinnie Roe, who won that Leopardstown race in 2000."
Smullen's double moves him onto the 78 winner mark for the year, one ahead of Fran Berry, who himself partnered a winner at Cork today, and three ahead of Johnny Murtagh.
