Singe The Turf scorches home
Jim Bolger unleashed an impressive three-year-old newcomer when Singe The Turf pulverised his opposition by six lengths in the one mile two furlong ‘Aslan’ maiden at Leopardstown.
The well-bred colt by Galileo out of Affianced was driven clear by Kevin Manning over a furlong out and quickly ended the race as a contest.
He was returned at 9/2 while Jolie Jioconde at 6/1 took the runner-up berth. Another two and a half lengths back in third was Certerach at 16/1. The Lodge Road the 7/2 favourite, finished a one-paced fourth, eight lengths behind Certerach.
Jim Bolger said: “I’m very happy with him. He had a few little problems; just enough to keep him off the track.
“He was ready to run at the backend of last year but had problems with mucus and the same problem again in Spring.
“He had a couple of little muscle problems but they are well behind him now. He’s a slightly late developer.
“He’s a full brother to Soldier Of Fortune [Irish Derby winner 2007] and to Heliostatic.
“There is one left, a full sister who is a two-year-old.” Miss Fairbanks was withdrawn not under orders for refusing to load the stalls. There was a Rule 4 of 15 cent in the euro to all bets.
