Shot on target for Cheltenham bumper
Shot From The Hip entered the Cheltenham Bumper picture with an impressive performance in the concluding contest at Leopardstown today.
JP Magnier had his mount in front from halfway and the German-bred quickened up in good style over a furlong from home.
He galloped on strongly in the closing stages to go away for a three-length success over 8/11 favourite Araucaria
It was a quick double for trainer Edward O'Grady following the victory of Tranquil Sea in the preceding race.
"We're very lucky they didn't race at Naas last week. This horse had a rest and was supposed to start back on January 1st which became the 17th because of the weather," revealed O'Grady.
"Last week would have been too soon for him. We got a gallop into him last Saturday instead and that helped for today. Hopefully he comes on for it.
"If the owners wishes to go he'll travel (to Cheltenham). I think he's a horse that has improved quite a bit and hopefully he improves a bit more."
Boylesports, Sean Grahams and Ladbrokes all introduced the winner as a 10/1 shot for the Champion Bumper at Cheltenham.
