Hewick opened his account in good style when taking the Coola Handicap Hurdle at Kilbeggan this evening.
The Shark Hanlon-trained gelding went to post a 16/1 shot in the three-miler having been well held in previous handicap starts over shorter.
He travelled sweetly to lead before the last under Jody McGarvey and picked up well on the run-in to post a five-and-a-half length verdict over 28/1 shot Trouble And Strife
“I'd say stepping up in trip was the key to him today. He loved the ground and Jody said he wanted every yard of three miles,” said Hanlon.
“He travelled, he's a great pilot and he does everything right. I said to him that he had a chance on his work at home and to ride with plenty of confidence which he did.
“He's had two winners for me in two days with the one owner so it's great for the man that owns him as well.
“I've had ten winners and 14 seconds since we started again so the horses are flying.”
