Seussical plays the right tune

David Wachman opened his account for 2013 when Seussical defied top-weight under Wayne Lordan in the Irish News Boot Room Handicap at Dundalk. Toberton ensured a searching gallop in this mile event when sent straight to the front from his wide draw by Luke Dempsey, and was all of eight lengths clear by halfway.
However the distress signals started to go up in the straight, and the Ted Walsh-trained gelding was collared by the furlong pole.
At this point Lordan’s mount came through to take it up, and the 5/1 chance stayed on strongly to move two and a half lengths clear of Our Manekineko (12/1) at the line.
Toberton (13/2) was a further two and three quarter lengths adrift in third, while the 100/30 favourite Strapless was eased when beaten inside the final quarter mile by Kevin Manning to finish in rear.
Incidentally the successful son of Galileo is out of Danehill Music, who won four times for Wachman including at Group 3 and Listed level.
Lordan said afterwards, “They went a real good gallop which suited. He stays well and will improve.”
