- Second Sligo success for Highdownhill
Second Sligo success for Highdownhill
The penultimate race on the card at Sligo this afternoon, the Martinstown Opportunity Handicap Hurdle, went to the 4/1 joint favourite Highdownhill
On just his fifth career start the 6yo was recording his second success in as many outings having won over the course last time out on his handicap debut.
The winning son of Montejeu, came from off the pace to lead two flights from home when cantering under Paddy Mangan. The race looked over as a contest turning into the straight but the winner hung left and gave the runner-up Siberion another chance.
However, once Paddy Mangan straightened up his mount he ran on to win by three and a half lengths.
The other 4/1 joint favourite What's New finished a further two lengths back in third.
Winning trainer Niall 'Boots' Madden said afterwards: "He will go for another low grade handicap next. He is a nice sort and will go chasing in time. He is too big to go on firm ground."
