Saoi springs suprise in Gowran opener

Saoi caused a shock in the opener at Gowran Park when the outsider of Jim Bolger's pair ran out a ready winner of the Bennettsbridge Maiden.

Davy Moran produced the 20/1 shot to lead over a furlong from home and he stayed on well to post a length-and-a-half victory over Yes Missus

Bolger's other charge Purple Land was a further length back in third. Even-money favourite Gonebeyondthemoon could never get a blow in back in fifth.

"We knew he wasn't too bad but thought he would need a run before he would be up to the job," said Bolger. "I also thought he might need a little further."
