Salsaretta (8/11) made it two from two over fences when taking the Tote Proud Sponsors Of Punchestown Mares Chase in convincing fashion.
The French-bred daughter of Kingsalsa always seemed to have Paul Townend sitting pretty, given the way she was travelling and jumping.
Willie Mullins’ charge took over from Agusta Gold (3s into 2s) in the straight and try as that one might to match strides with the winner, she couldn’t, and went down by three and a quarter lengths at the line.
“She’s a very slick jumper and has done it nicely. I think she would prefer softer ground," said Mullins.
“It’s a nice jump up in class for her and we’ll try and go back to novice races if we can.”
Looking to Tramore tomorrow the Closutton maestro commented: "Al Boum Photo is in good form and it’s good to see we have some proper winter ground there. Hopefully he can perform like he did last year.”
