Trainer John Ryan is targeting 40 winners in his best ever season and needs just three more, following That's Lifebuoy s success in Gowran's BoyleSports Careys Cottage Cup Handicap Chase today.
Ryan's enthusiastic '1.01' cheering added entertainment to behind-closed-doors racing last year, and while winners have slowed and crowds have returned, That's Lifebuoy was his second success this month.
Ridden by Liam Quinlan, That's Lifebuoy made gradual progress from rear and edged past Hollybank King in the closing stages for a five lengths win, under the 5lbs claimer.
Ryan, who sent out 31 winners between May and September 2021, later reported “she’s a good mare and she did it well. She’s entered at Thurles on Thursday and she’ll run again off a penalty.
“That’s 37 winners for the season and we’ll hit 40 please God.”
