Ahead of Settle For Bay's Royal Hunt Cup bid at Royal Ascot on Wednesday, David Marnane got a welcome fillip with Cracking Name s success in the finale at Cork, the Gina Dale Haze & The Conquerors Gig July 13th Handicap.
Wayne Lordan did the steering on this Famous Name filly, and in the seventeen runner 45 to 65 heat, the winner was never far away before holding on from 'the finisher,' 33/1 chance Tynamite
"Over the shorter trip she wasn't jumping well enough for me and I was getting a bit further back and she was staying on," reported Lordan.
"The mile and a bit today was a big help as I was able to get into position. Hopefully she can win again."
R. Coakley, rider of Cosmic Symbol trained by G. Webb, reported to the Clerk of Scales that his mount checked leaving the stalls.
The Stewards interviewed T.M. Sherry, rider of Beau Satchel (GB), concerning his use of the whip in the closing stages of this race.
Evidence was heard from the rider concerned.
Having viewed a recording of the race and considered the evidence, the Stewards were of the opinion that the rider was in breach of Regulation 10.3(f), in that he had used his whip with excessive frequency.
Having taken his previous good record in this regard into account, the Stewards cautioned him.
Mr. J. Donoghue Acting Steward, absented himself from this enquiry.
