It's been a while now since Roter Baron first displayed race winning potential, and in division one of the Coast Tavern Laytown Handicap at Dundalk, he shed his maiden tag on outing number twelve.
The Red Clubs gelding, had Declan McDonogh in the plate for the first time, and he found support in the ring at the track, from 12s into 7s.
Eamonn O'Connell 's representative came through from mid-division, to lead a furlong out. The 47-rated runner then went on to beat Hilary by a length and a half.
"He'll be back here in a couple of weeks if he's okay. I thought he'd run well tonight," stated O'Connell, who has his string in good form, with Captainofthefleet also advertising their well-being in recent times.
The Turf Club Veterinary Officer examined Saga Diamond trained by James M. Barrett, at the request of the Stewards and reported the animal to be Post Race Normal.
