Owner John Connaughton's homebred Romantically got off the mark on her first attempt at staying trips when landing the concluding Irishinjuredjockeys.com Handicap, run over two miles, at Dundalk tonight.
The daughter of Camelot had previously failed to win in six career starts, mostly at middle-distances, but today showed improved form to win on her first attempt at two miles, when holding the challenge of runner-up Yamato by half a length.
Winning trainer Willie McCreery later stated “the step up in trip suited her and Nathan (Cross, winning jockey) was very positive which was important.
“I’m delighted for Johnny Connaughton, he bred her himself and it’s important to get a win for her for breeding purposes.
“She might be a nice mare next year in staying races. All she does is gallop and she fought out hard to win that race up the straight.”
