The Denise Foster-trained Oh Purple Reign was easy to back in the Holden Plant Rentals Handicap at Gowran Park but ran out a convincing winner.
Sam Ewing produce the 14/1 shot (15/2 this morning) to challenge on the outer passing the two pole and he edged on from Petticoat Rule inside the final furlong.
The Sir Prancealot gelding really hit top gear close home as he pulled away to record a two-and-a-half length success.
Oh Purple Reign had been a close third at Naas last. He had won three times as a two-year-old in England for Richard Hannon.
Stable representative Ian ‘Busty’ Amond said:- “He had a rating of over 100 at one time and was down to a mark (64) where he was bound to win at some stage.
“Sam said he picked up well today. It took him a while to get going at Naas the last day and Sam said he surprised him how he picked up today.
“He could come back here if there is a suitable race.”
