The John Geoghegan trained Queluz gained a deserved first win at Cork today, landing division one of the Blizzards Play Live July 14th Handicap under jockey Gary Halpin.

Queluz had finished second thrice and third twice on of his last five starts but today scored a half length win over Misty Mountain

Geoghegan, whose previous win was with The Dancing Lord at Dundalk last March, later stated “he deserves it but I was very close to pulling him out because of the quick ground. He’s by Bushranger and will go on anything except extremes and it was getting too quick but he seemed to handle it ok.

“That’s his grade and we’ll see what the handicapper does and keep running in those races.”
