Sore after his fall from Felix Desjy at Thurles on Saturday, Jack Kennedy missed the mount on Bigbadandbeautiful as Robbie Power successfully deputised on Denise ‘Sneezy’ Foster’s charge in the Slane Mares Maiden Hurdle at Navan.
A three time bumper scorer, including twice at Listed level, Bigbadandbeautiful, is assessed as an 80-rated performer on the Flat and she showed that pace and class at the business end here.
The grey’s jumping certainly wasn’t without flaw at her initial attempt, but Power gave her a lovely patient steer and he was confident about her picking up De Lady In Red which she did by a length and a quarter.
“She likes Navan and Puppy said that when she gets her jumping slicker she’ll be very good,” said Mrs Foster.
“She could go for the mares’ race in Punchestown.
“She’s a novice for a while so she has lots of opportunities and she could also run on the flat over the summer.
“She has that extra gear and made up the ground easily.”
The Stewards interviewed P.E. Corbett, rider of Moonshot concerning his use of the whip in the latter stages of this race. Evidence was heard from the rider concerned who acknowledged that he had used his whip with excessive frequency. Having viewed a recording of the race and considered the evidence the Stewards found the rider in breach of Reg.10.3.(g)(frequency) and having taken his record into account cautioned him on this occasion.
