Power storms to Group 1 glory
The Aidan O’Brien trained Power overcame a narrow failure in the Phoenix Stakes recently with a Group 1 win in the Goffs National Stakes at The Curragh today, winning for jockey Seamie Heffernan.
Stablemate David Livingston made the running and still held the lead until Power swept to the front inside the final furlong. Power, a son of Oasis Dream, eventually held the late challenge of Dragon Pulse to win by half a length.
O’Brien was at Doncaster, where his Seville finished fourth in the St Leger, but Heffernan later stated “I felt I shouldn’t have been beaten on Power the last day and I rode him with more confidence today.”
“He had a hard race when beaten last day but I think it actually brought him on a bit. He’s a good, strong colt, trains well at home and was in good form coming here.”
