Persia made a significant step forward on his second outing to claim the opening Irish Stallion Farms EBF Maiden at Galway this afternoon.
Aidan O'Brien 's charge had finished mid-division on his debut at the Curragh last month but like a lot of the yard's runners he improved markedly for the run.
Donnacha O'Brien was soon prominent on the Galileo colt today and he led after a furlong in the extended mile contest.
The 2/1 favourite was asked for an effort passing the two pole and always looked in control in the straight as he kept on well for a five length success over long-time pursuer Alatar
The winning rider said:- "He had a nice run first time, is still quite raw and green but he is learning plenty and has plenty of ability.
"It is a maiden so it was easier (to get to the front from his 11 draw) and he broke quite well.
“He is a beautiful big horse and there is a lot of improvement in him . He will be a fine staying horse next year."
