Perfect Thunder (5/2) defeated 8/11 favourite Toy to win the Curragh's Cavalor Equine Nutrition (Fillies) Maiden today, for trainer Joseph O'Brien and in Shapoor Mistry's colours of last year's Pretty Polly Stakes winner Thundering Nights.
Jockey Declan McDonogh stalked favourite Toy in the 19-runner race and while the 'jolly' battled well when challenged in the final furlong, Perfect Thunder edged ahead close home to win by half a length.
Perfect Thunder carries the same colours as 2021 Group 1 Pretty Polly Stakes winner Thundering Nights and following today's success, O'Brien said “I’m delighted for the owner who had Thundering Nights, another filly by Night Of Thunder, and if this one progresses half as far as her, we will be happy.
“It’s nice to get a good start to the season. She had good form last year and we thought she would run well.
“I’d say it was a very competitive maiden as you would expect and it’s great to get on the board. We’ll see how she comes out of this and I’d imagine she will step into a Stakes race next.”
