Gigginstown's Peace News kept on well to secure a narrow victory on his first start over fences in the beginners' chase at Down Royal.
Having reached a peak of 141 over hurdles, he was sent off 11/8 favourite for this assignment over an extended two miles three furlongs.
The six-year-old gelding improved under Davy Russell to lead after the third last. He made a slight mistake at the second last and was pressed from the final fence by Justmemyselfandi (6/1) but prevailed by a neck.
Alan Cody, representing trainer Henry de Bromhead, said: "His jumping got him there. He ran well and smaller fields suit him better.
"Davy said he jumped well but that he's nervous around horses.
"He'll be kept going now, he loved that ground. Onwards and upwards."
