Upper Lambourn trainer Jamie Osborne and the Melbourne 10 Racing syndicate supplied 7/4 favourite Monteverdi to win the concluding qualified riders' race in Laytown.
Kate Harrington moved him into the lead after three of the seven furlongs and the pair travelled well before closing out the race in the final furlong by three lengths.
Monteverdi was popular during the day as he traded as high as 4/1 in the morning. Edification at 9/2 came in second while Zanjabeel also at 9/2 was third.
“Last year we didn't have a winner until the last and it's happened again this year. What a relief!” Jamie Osborne said.
“I think I was going to be swimming home if he hadn't won!
“We had a couple of reversals along the way and were starting to just bang the heads a little bit. Any day you have a winner is a good one.
“I've never seen him do that before (play up in stalls), it was a bit of a shock to me. I was thinking 'Oh my God we are going to get withdrawn'. Thank God it all worked out.”
