The Edward O’Grady trained Slippery Serpent was rewarded for some good recent consistency when gaining a deserved first success at Downpatrick today, landing the concluding 'Your Name Here' INH Bumper under jockey Barry O’Neill.
The son of Scorpion had finished second twice in July and today went clear of his rivals before the home straight before scoring a five and half lengths win over Mr Dealer
Afterwards O’Grady stated “I think he has been a little unfortunate that he hasn't won before now. He settled better in the race and it was run to suit him. I think he was always a winner throughout today.
"I look forward to going hurdling with him - jumping would be his forte and I think he'll go on any ground. I’d say he'll run in three or four weeks in a maiden hurdle."
Jockey Patrick Mullins received a fall from favourite Special Ted who stumbled with half a mile to race, but was subsequently fine.
