Arvico Bleu dictated from the front in the extended two mile beginners' chase at Clonmel and had enough in the tank to repel Druid's Altar
The latter came home well on the run-in and closed to within half a length at the line but Mike O'Connor had got his tactics right on the winner.
Arvico Bleu scored at 'Burlington Bertie 100/30' from the even-money favourite. The pair raced 26 lengths clear of third-placed The Cathal Don (11/2).
Henry de Bromhead said: "Arvico has shown so much over the years but obviously has been a bit disappointing but hopefully that might rejuvenate him. His experience told, Mikey kept it simple, he jumped really well and was brilliant on him.
"Mikey is doing really well, is a good worker, a good rider and a nice fellow to work with, so I'm delighted for him."
