O'Brien wins St.Leger at The Curragh
The feature race of the afternoon The Irish Field St. Leger Group 1 was won by the Aidan O'Brien trained Septimus with Seamie Heffernan doing the steering in the colours of Derrick Smith, Mrs John Magnier and Michael Tabor.
O'Brien made it 5 Irish Classic wins this season and 3 Classics for Seamie Heffernan. Septimus the 1/3 favourite led approaching straight and stayed on well to win by an impressive 13 lengths nearest rival being stable mate New Zealand with Pat Smullen aboard.
Seamie Heffernan said, "He's very genuine, he'll improve a bit from that. He's a very honest horse and wants to win.
Anne Marie O'Brien wife of Aidan said, "It's a great achievement to win the 5 classics this year. Everyone in the yard has done a great job and the horses have stayed fit and healthy."
