Donnacha O’Brien increased his lead at the head of the jockeys’ championship when completing a double on Christopher Robin in the Follow Limerick Racecourse On Facebook Rated Race.
The son of Camelot has proved a frustrating sort in the past (beaten favourite three times with cut in the ground) but got it together here under a well-timed ride.
O’Brien tried to go for a run up the inner early in the straight but had to switch out to challenge and got the 7/2 chance up on the line to touch off Moktamel by a nose. Dawn Hoofer was just half a length back in third.
Donnacha O’Brien said, “He has his own idea about things. Ryan ran me this morning and said drop him in and take all the chances with him and thankfully it worked.”
This completed a 17/1 double for Aidan and Donacha O’Brien who were earlier on the mark with Conclusion and Donnacha is now three clear (32-29) of reigning champion Colin Keane in the riders title race.
