While many were of the opinion that According To Him wouldn't hold the Newmarket Handicap Hurdle after badly hampering Sebadee at the last, the steward's surprised the majority of those in attendance by leaving the result stand.

Paddy Flood (got 1 day for careless riding) rode the winner for Eugene O'Sullivan and he jumped left in the closing stages (slightly hampered Sebadee two out), badly so at the final flight, giving Sebadee quite a severe check. He crossed the line three parts of a length to the good.
