The defection of Tremendous Leap (declared in error) from the Ladies Day Tomorrow At Sligo Races Race saw just three go to post but we still had a worhwhile contest. It went along expected lines with Mutaabeq (1/3) prevailing.
Victorious on his sole previous start to date, at Ballinrobe on July 23rd, Mutaabeq again made hay in the west for Dermot Weld and Declan McDonogh. Meagher's Flag (5/2) couldn't live with his change of gear in the final furlong and half a length split them at the line.
They left Land Of Grace (66/1) forty six lengths in arrears.
Meagher's Flag is rated 85 so this was a fair effort on the part of Mutaabeq to successfully concede six pounds.
McDonogh intimated as much afterwards - "It was a messy race but my horse did well up against a horse with experience. It's only his second run and is a horse we like.
"I thought he won a shade snug, just hands and I gave him one flick to win. Hopefully he can progress."
