Premier League completed a fine couple of days for Kells trainer Mick Mulvany when recording a not unexpected 14/1 success in the concluding Hen & Stag Packages At Dundalk Stadium Handicap.
On The Go Again has been Mulvany’s flagbearer this term winning the Lincoln on the opening day of the turf season at Naas, and providing his trainer with a first Listed victory in the Heritage Stakes at Leopardstown on Monday.
Premier League was unplaced in seven outings as a juvenile last year but that didn’t detract punters who supported the gelding from 25/1 earlier in the day before going to post a 14/1 chance.
The Rip Van Winkle was very keen at the head of affairs and appeared beaten when headed a furlong out.
However Gary Carroll’s mount dug deep to regain the initiative eventually beating It’s All A joke by half a length with Highly Approved a head further back in third.
Mulvany said, “We fancied him all week for this. We thought he had improved from last year. He was working with the horse that ran here last week (Early Call) and he was better in than some of them there.
“Gary said he found it hard to settle him and he needs to learn to race properly. He's a big strong horse but he was a weak horse last year, it takes time.
“We wouldn't normally have come here but for the meetings being changed. Most of my horses like a bit of give in the ground.”
