Mullins gains overdue win with Medal
Monthly Medal recorded his first win in two years, and his first for trainer Tony Mullins, when coming out the better of a photo finish in the Derrinstown Stud Apprentice Handicap (div 2) at Cork today.
Well-ridden by capable 7lbs claiming apprentice jockey Julie Burke, Monthly Medal, a son of Danehill Dancer, raced towards the rear, made progress from two furlongs out, eventually getting to the front at the line for the narrowest of wins over Orlando Dawn
Afterwards Mullins reported “Monthly Medal isn't the horse he was as things went wrong with him but hopefully he can continue to pay his way now. He is owned by Paddy O'Connell, a Kilkenny publican living in Dublin.”
