Mosstown scores on hurdle debut
Trainer Jessica Harrington and jockey Barry Geraghty combined to win the opening Ballygrennane 3YO Maiden Hurdle at Listowel today, with Mosstown avoiding casualties in the early stages of the race, before scoring easily by seven lengths.
Typical of this type of event, casualties were high in an 18 runner race, with no less than five exiting the race at the first three hurdles. However, Geraghty steered a clear course on Mosstown, leading from the fourth last flight before staying on well to defeat Golan Go
Harrington was absent but was represented by her daughter Emma Harrington who stated “Barry (Geraghty) said he labouring slightly in this tacky ground and that he would prefer looser ground. However he did it well and jumped very well – we've no immediate plans from here.”
