Former Champion Trainer Arthur Moore's yard halted a decline when Brosna George won at Down Royal in October and today the gelding won his second race when landing the BoyleXtra One Card Giving Xtra Handicap Hurdle at Fairyhouse, under Jockeys' Championship leader Paul Townend.
Ireland's Champion Trainer in 1992 is down in numbers in recent times and went 17 months without a winner until Brosna George scored at the northern venue two starts ago. Today jockey Townend, who was completing a double on the day, steered the seven year old gelding to a facile four lengths win over Clontarf
Afterwards Moore stated “he's going the right way and I suppose he'll have to carry on for another while over hurdles. He jumps like he wants fences.
“He's just a nice genuine horse and at this age he's improving. We'll keep him going once the ground doesn't get too heavy and he takes his races very well.
“As I said before, I rode a winner for Gerry Cullen (owner) about a hundred years ago! I've had a good few winners for him over the years and he's always been involved in the yard. He's a lovely man and it's always a great pleasure to have a winner for him.
“We could look at one of the Pertemps qualifiers with him but I doubt he'd get into one, he'd need to go up again.”
Townend won the Fred Winter Hurdle for Moore on What A Charm in 2011 and the former Champion Jockey is now four winners clear (69-65) of Rachael Blackmore at the head of the Jockeys' Championship.
