Monbeg Notorious justified odds of 8/11 in the Buy Your 2018 Annual Membership Beginners Chase at Punchestown.
Davy Russell donned the Gigginstown House Stud colours for Gordon Elliott aboard the former Donnchadh Doyle trained point-to-point victor. Augustin (15/8) couldn't live with Monbeg Notorious (mistake at the 2nd and slow at the next), on his third attempt over racecourse fences, up the straight in this extended three mile one contest.
At the line seven and a half lengths split them.
"He's a big long distance chaser," said Elliott.
"I doubt if he'll run in graded company and we'll look at some of the long distance handicap chases on soft ground with him and give him a rattle at one of those.
"Hopefully he'll make into a nice handicapper."
