Chris Meehan has enjoyed a good Listowel Festival and added to a double here on the opening day of the meeting last Sunday by taking the Sean T McElligott Memorial Novice Hurdle on Morgan
The odds-on Minella Beau set the pace under Ruby Walsh but stopped very quickly after Morgan challenged at the penultimate flight.
The Gordon Elliott-trained 5/2 shot soon asserted and was in command on the run-in to beat the 4/9 favourite by 20 lengths. Cinema De Quartier was a further 18 lengths away in third.
The two miles event was reduced to just four runners after Housesofparliament was ruled out due to coughing.
Meehan said, “He is quite free at home but he settled very well for me today and jumped well. He handled the ground and quickened away well.”
