Andrew McNamara, who got engaged to Rhona Healy earlier this week, had further cause for celebration after completing a double at Clonmel aboard D’s Trix.
The 7/1 chance, trained by McNamara’s father and namesake, led by-passing the second last fence and kept on well to beat outsider Grandeur Cappy (50/1) by a length and three quarters.
The well-backed 2/1 favourite Dun Masc could only keep on onepaced a further two lengths away in third.
The two fences in the straight were by-passed in this race due to the low sun.
McNamara senior said, “I knew there could be a problem here today with the sun so I gave him a spin on the Flat at Limerick on Sunday!
“He’ll continue on the go over the summer and mix it between hurdles and fences. Hopefully he can win a distance hurdle.”
