Eric McNamara registered his first winner since his son Emmet McNamara's famous Epsom Derby win on Serpentine, as the trainer won the LimerickRaces.ie Maiden Hurdle at Limerick today with Oscar Montel ridden by another son Conor McNamara.
Emmet McNamara's win in the Epsom Classic was on July 4 and today's winner Oscar Montel was his father's first winner of the new jumps season, as the gelding fought off the challenge of Fest Deiz to score a length and three parts win.
Trainer McNamara later commented “he had two runs in Thurles that he'd be entitled to win that race but he has been a little in and out and twice he disappointed us.
“He stays every yard of three miles though and the ease in the ground was a help to him. He is a good tough horse and will make a nice chaser in time.”
