The Wilderness Chase at Clonmel only had a field of four but it was still exciting fare up the straight as Fever Pitch (5/2) eventually came home the all the way victor under David Casey.
J P McManus' Fever Pitch was pushed along approaching two out and he asserted on the run-in to prevail by three lengths from Too Scoops (5/4 favourite). The win brought up a brace for McManus after the earlier success of Sir Abbott.
That fellow's trainer and rider, Robert Tyner and Philip Enright (stood down for the day), bidding for a double with Kandinski (unfortunately a fatality), had that hope scuppered when their horse came to grief when still in with a chance at the second last.
"I was looking at the programme after his last run and this race jumped out at me. He won here before and he's a super jumper so we said we'd capitalise on that out in front. He got a very good drive," said winning trainer Arthur Moore.
"He likes time between his races and we'll run him back in early December.
"In general we've never had as few but we've got some nice horses and they're paying their way." (TW & EM)
