Irish Champions Weekend is starting to build up momentum following a press launch earlier this week, and Ado McGuinness is planning to target one of the valuable handicaps with Oor Jock (8/1) who scored for the third time this season in the six-furlong Charlatans Handicap.
The six-year-old gelding came from off the pace to lead inside the final furlong for Declan McDonogh, and kept on really well for a convincing two lengths verdict over the front-running Chillie Billie Hatton Cross kept on to finish a further half-length back in third.
McGuinness said, “He used to get very upset in the stables but now we leave him in the box with his pony and he’s grand.
“I’d be happy to go for one of the big handicaps with him now and he could go for the six-furlong race at the Curragh on Irish Champions Weekend.
“He’s always a bit slowly away but that might have been a blessing in disguise as they went quick in front.”
