McDonogh lands treble on Choose
The stand's rail proved the place to be once again as Ucanchoose blitzed his rivals in the Active Retirement Handicap at Tipperary, giving jockey Declan McDonogh a treble on the card.
McDonogh made a dart for the rail as his mount jumped well out of stall 12 and he made every yard of the running in the sprint.
Andrew Slattery 's charge, defying a 5lb penalty for Wednesday's win at Naas, kept on strongly inside the final furlong to score by a length-and-a-quarter from Queen Grace
The winner was backed from 4/1 into 3/1 this morning and the support continued on course with the Choisir gelding eventually sent off 9/4 favourite.
"He's hardly after improving as a five-year-old but the blinkers seem to have transformed him," said Slattery.
"He won this race as a three-year-old and is after coming to life in the last few weeks.
"He wants soft ground - that's the key to him. Whether he'll be able to compete at a higher level, we'll have to see.
"We were only half thinking about bringing him back into training this season so we made the right decision."
McDonogh had taken the previous maiden on Brazilian Breeze and had also struck earlier on Acushladear in the seven-furlong handicap.
