McDonogh Finds a Diamond in Lesoto
After some frustrating near misses in recent times, Declan McDonogh followed up last night's win on Knight Eagle, when finding a willing partner in the seven-year-old Darnay mare, Lesoto Diamond as she proved a length and a quarter too strong for Taralga in the Bobbyjo Bistro Handicap.
This mile and a half contest saw a gamble develop on top-weight, Uncle Eric (12/1 in the morning into 5/2) but he could manage no better than sixth.
Successful trainer, Pat Fahy said: "The owners, the Foleys are neighbours of mine in Leighlinbridge and they also bred her. Good ground is the key to this mare. One of her best runs was at the Guineas meeting last year when it was very quick. She'll go for a mile and a half handicap again next time at one of the nicer tracks."
