Just half an hour after Provocateuse the Niarchos colours were back in the winners’ enclosure after the Irish EBF Median Sires Series Fillies Maiden as Cigamia (33/1) scored impressively on debut under 3lb claimer Nathan Crosse.
Held up early in mid-division on the inner, the daughter of Breeders’ Cup Mile winner Karakontie gradually moved across towards the stands’ side in the straight. She challenged from over a furlong out and went clear on the climb to the line, with two and three quarter lengths the margin of victory over Past Time in second.
It was a 17th winner of the campaign for the winning rider.
Winning trainer Willie McCreery said: “She’s a big raw filly and I just wanted to get her started. Nathan gave her a lovely ride.
“She’s been working well and we just wanted to mind her so I’m delighted with that.
“It’s great to get a winner for the connections. I remember Karakontie racing and she’s nice and tall like him. He was a very good miler so she’ll get a mile no problem.
“That’s a great starting point and hopefully she’ll progress.”
