Matchbook makes most of Martinstown Opportunity
Local trainer John Murphy saddled his second winner in as many days when his Matchbook landed a dramatic Martinstown Opportunity Handicap Hurdle at Cork today.
Ridden by David Splaine, Matchbook was four lengths behind leader Val San Vito when the Andrew McNamara trained gelding blundered and unseated Pat Kennedy at the second last flight, leaving Matchbook to run out the three lengths winner over Mayday Frontier
Afterwards Murphy said “David (Splaine) gave Matchbook a great ride and while I told him to wait and wait before hitting the front with the horse, Val San Vito’s exit was an obvious help to us. We may run Matchbook again at Wexford on Friday.”
