Market gets it wrong as Frontier wins

Wed 19th Oct 2011, 15:00

The www.thetote.com/mobile Maiden over a mile proved to be tough going for its juvenile participants and the bigger priced of the Ballydoyle-trained pair, Frontier saw it out best to beat Light Heavy in race two at Navan.

Frontier was always well-placed under Colm O'Donoghue whilst his stable companion Thomasgainsborough (5/2 into 5/4) wasn't an easy ride for Seamie Heffernan and eventually had to settle for third.

At the business end Frontier led a furlong out and he held the renewed challenge of the promising newcomer Light Heavy by a neck.

O'Donoghue remarked: "It's very soft ground – it's testing.

"He improved a lot for the run at the Curragh (an eye-catching sixth there) and he stuck at it well here.

"Hopefully he'll keep improving and be a nice horse next year."

The Stewards enquired into possible interference before reaching the marker poles involving Ibsen ridden by S.H. James, unplaced and Engage The Dance ridden by B.A. Curtis which unseated rider at this point..

Evidence was heard from the riders concerned.

Having viewed the video of the race and considered the evidence, the Stewards made no alteration to the Judges’ placings.

They did, however, find that S.H. James was in breach of rule 211 (marker poles) and had also breached rule 214 by riding carelessly. The Stewards took into consideration his record and suspended him for 6 racedays.
