Jim Bolger and Kevin Manning completed a double at Leopardstown this evening, as they took the last, the Racecourse Of The Year Handicap, with Mainicin
Bolger and Manning had a four-timer at the Foxrock venue last Thursday, and the initiated their brace this evening with Seville Star in the third.
Mainicin, who had never finished better than sixth in eight starts before today, was available at 14/1 last night, but went off at just 8's.
Sent straight to the front by Manning, the daughter of Teofilo made all, keeping on well under pressure from over a furlong out, going on to score by a length and three parts. Escape Paradise who was sent off the 7/2 favourite, couldn't reel in the winner, and she had to settle for second under Colm O'Donoghue for Jessica Harrington.
The well-backed Belarusian (20's in a place this morning and from 10's to 8's on-course) ran a fine race to finish third, a further half a length back under Seamie Heffernan for Denis Hogan.
Jim Bolger said afterwards: "The ground is the key to her. She hasn't had it all season."
The winner is a full-sister to dual Listed winner Paene Magnus.
