Magnanimity gives Russell double
Davy Russell landed a double when Magnanimity ran out a game winner of the Irish Stallion Owners Maiden Hurdle at Navan.
The Winged Love gelding hit the front two out but had to battle in the closing stages to see off the challenge of 5/4f Lucky William by a length-and-a-half.
"He's a grand horse and hopefully he'll go on and run well in novice races," said trainer Dessie Hughes.
"He might go to Limerick over Christmas. He goes in the ground and it would be easier there than Leopardstown.
"He has the look of a chaser but won't be doing that until next season."
Owner Michael O'Leary was on hand to welcome his winner back into the enclosure.
Russell had also struck in the opener when partnering Where's The Dosh to success for trainer Liam Burke.
