Eddie Lynam was delighted to land another victory with Rough Diamond in the five furlong handicap at Navan for three-year-olds and upwards rated up to 95.
The 3/1 favourite began his challenge racing to the final furlong and was driven to the front by Dylan Browne McMonagle coming to the final 100 yards. He kept on best to see off Princess Sela (10/3) by half a length. Fastar was another length and a quarter back in third at 25/1.
Lynam said: "He's not premier handicaps - when he drops a bit, I think he is better.
"It is good to get it and Trevor (Dalzell, owner) is with me yonks so it is nice to get winners for him.
"He's out of a mare (Good To Follow) that has had four foals with us now - the first one won three, the second one, Tide Of Time who was second in this last year, won eight and we have retired him. This one has won three anyway I'd say and Gobi Star fell in in the north (Down Royal) the other day. The mare has been good to me. It's the Slade Power family.
"No (he hasn't matured at all), he is the type of fella if you're on the last bus he is the type you meet!"
